Prestigious Judging Panel to be Announced.
The Milken Archive of Jewish Music in collaboration with the Foundation for Jewish Culture is proud to announce the addition of a prestigious panel of curators from nationally renowned art museums to judge Eye Meets Ear: Visual Arts Competition for Emerging Artists.
Talks have also begun on the possibility of featuring the winning artwork in a museum exhibition.
About the competition: 20 works of art will be selected as cover art for 20 themed volumes of music in the Milken Archives new virtual museum. Each work selected will earn the artist a $2,000 cash prize. Artists may submit works of art in any visual mediums that express and/or relate to the theme of individual virtual museum volumes, each of which explores a particular historical, cultural or musical theme.
Of the 20 volumes, submissions for the following are especially encouraged:
3. SEDER TEFILLOT: Traditional and Contemporary Synagogue Services
5. The Classical Klezmer: Rebirth of a Folk Tradition
9. The Art of Jewish Song: Yiddish and Hebrew
14. Golden Voices in the Golden Land: The Great Age of Cantorial Art in America
[16. Heroes and Heroines: Jewish Opera
18. Psalms and Canticles: Jewish Choral Art in America
In addition to these six volumes, all volumes remain open for submissions.
The Eye Meets Ear competition gives young artists an opportunity to discover and express what is timeless and universal in this musical collection 350 years in the making, said Milken Archive Curator Jeff Janeczko. It also affirms the value both the Milken Archive and the Foundation for Jewish Culture place on the role the arts play in creating a vibrant, meaningful and sustainable Jewish culture.
